Reasons why people dont go to church.

cool little video i saw the other day. and im pretty sure that you will be seeing versions of it pop up soon.

Crunch Time.

Here is whats coming up in the next few months,

- this wednesday is a business meeting where i have to give a report on whats up and what ive been doing. and im praying that the few adults that think im not doing my job cause kids arent wearing suits every sunday dont show up. its my first "real" business meeting considering last quarter no one told me i had to report and i was pulled from teaching to talk to them.

-this weekend im gonna be out of town for a family thing. more details about that later. wont be back till tuesday.

-got two months till summer camp. and 3 fundraisers to run before that. its alot of firsts for me. its gonna be nuts. i cant wait.

-currently working on my mission statement and getting teachings down for the next quarter. alot of firsts there too.

- cant wait till im not doing as many "firsts". I mean i love learning and growing, but i dont need the nerves that come with it.

more later

ive seen it all

the video speaks for itself

been awhile.

sorry folks.

its been a crazy crazy six months. i cant even remember that guy that started this blog six months ago. ive grown and changed so much. its been a blessing and a curse. here are some random thoughts/things ive learned since the last post.

-if you work in youth ministry you have two options. either drink tons of coffee or be one of those crazy people who work out 3 times a day. cause you need alot of energy.

-REMEMBER YOUR CALLING! i admit ive slipped on this. i was chosen by god for what i was good at, my specific purpose.to be an example to students that Jesus Christ LOVES YOU WHERE YOUR AT! and when your in a church that has alot of totally different expetations of your calling its too easy to lose focus. REMEMBER WHY GOD CALLED YOU.

-Going on the previous point, most people (well at least in my case since im in a very traditional church) think that your job is to babysit, teach them how to behave in church, and basically that they are very low in the totem pole and are less important than others.
First off i was never a good babysitter, i let them play with glue and sissors, and my first and foremost job is to share the gospel with these kids. Things like how to behave is in my opinion not really a teachable thing. its learned from watching other examples. and that takes time. so GET OVER IT!

-being in a southern baptist church, all the jokes are true. in order to do anything in my youth ministry i pretty much have to make phone calls and set up a meeting. get it approved. and then wait a month for the next business meeting and ask the entire church, now i see how it helps prevent alot of problems. but its just too much paperwork for something silly like getting another adult in my youth services with me. espically with all the new members we are getting.

-prepare to be judged on every comment, outfit, guesture, everything. remember if someone likes what you are doing there are 5 people who hate it. learn to deal. i dont think its ever gonna stop. just remember yout job.

i feel better now that ive gotten that down. im havin alot of fun and im seeing alot of awesome things. watching my guys and gals grow up and learn about our savior and applying his teachings to their life is such a breath taking thing. and its only been 5 months. so much more ahead.

the one main thing ive learned and have to be reminded of is that there is a ministry portion. and a job portion. and you will always love the ministry part more than the job part....

another video

this is chris tomlin's intro video when hes on tour. i love this video. enjoy...

friday....

Friday was a long day......
had to go to my first funeral at calvary.....
it was the grandmother of three of my youth....
they seemed ok. she had not been in good health since the 80's and they knew she was in heaven with jesus.....
it rained at the grave site..... hard...... my suit got alittle soaked but hey a few months in the trunk of my car will dry it up...
then headed back to the church and had our first full "staff meeting"
we met for almost 5 hours... i finally met the new assistant pastor trent....
i feel really good about this team. together with god i think the potential is endless....
then i went to newport news to my friend ambers house for a ovbc young adult social gathering.....
they prayed for me...
i loved that more than they know....
i needed that more than they know.....
i hope they continue to do so...... im going to miss them alot....
and natasha bought me a cookie dough ice cream cake from DQ(way better than coldstone cake in my opinion....
then after that had a good talk with some friends. and went home for the night...
tomorrow is alittle bit of a break. not anything scheduled.....yes!
of course i bet my next post will be about how all that changed...... night night

well if you have anything to do with a church and you know that wednesday is a long day

first off i went to ovbc to let aaron borrow a few things for his worship service

he leads students in a worship band

while i was there i decided to check out the video option on my camera

this is the guys during practice.

they were without a drummer and they had just started,

but they are a great bunch of guys and gals and they truely want to seek the lord,

video

then i headed over to calvary

they had only 4 kids tonight.

all girls. all the guys were at a baseball game

however i had a great conversation with the two adults who have ran the youth during transition

and got to see what my office is currently used for (storage). and took some pics for ya

but hey. we all start somewhere. im gonna clean it out next week and the new associate pastor and myself will be sharing it. as it gets better ill give updates

so tomorrow is my first naba (Norfolk Area Baptist Association) youth pastor network meeting. ive attended as a intern but my first one as a pastor, or whatever my title may be.
